Step 2
Remove the battery. Most dirt devil vacuums come with an external battery. You will have to remove it to cut the power source. It is usually on the side of the vacuum. A cable connects this battery to the charger plug.
Step 3
Remove the vacuum handle and place the machine on the floor. It should lie on its side while the handle’s attachment is facing upwards.
Step 4
Place the machine on the floor on its side with the handle attachment facing upwards. Rotate the locking collar counterclockwise using your hands and pull out the handle. Lubrication can always make it easier to rotate the lock if it proves too tight.
Step 5
Use the screwdriver to remove the screw after rotating the handle to a side with an up-facing screw. Remove all the other screws to take care not to lose them. Now carefully separate the two sections of the handle into two.
Step 6
Every dirt devil vacuum has a release button that releases the canister. Place the machine in an upward-facing position and press the button. The canister should easily come off. Empty the canister in a trash can then rinse with water when empty.
Step 7
Rotate the vacuum to face upwards and place it on the floor in your working area. You have to ensure the brush head faces upwards. Remove the screws on either side of the roll. This detaches the brush head to enable you easily pull the metal plate from the bristles
Step 8
At this point, the vacuum should have just a few screws left. Removing the screws should enable you to completely pluck out the brush head.
Now you have fully disassembled the vacuum parts, wash them thoroughly then air dry them. Make sure all the water in the vacuum’s components is dried off.
After cleaning and drying all the parts of the vacuum, assembling them back shouldn’t be a problem. Also, pick up the newspaper from your working area and discard it in the trashcan.
